Response To That Dreaded Interview Question: What Differentiates You From Other Candidates?

Often my interview prep clients have trouble answering this question because it requires we think: “Why am I so special?” Look, it is evident you are unique and valuable, but how can you articulate this with confidence while in an interview?

I’ve developed a starting point and I hope it helps!

Question: “So, John/Jane, Why do you think we should choose you for this position?”

Answer: “Well Hiring Manager, I’m glad you asked. It’s quite simple. There’s only one me. One thought process like mine. One instinctive decision-making strategy like mine. One bright idea like mine. One team-building concept like mine. One leadership style like mine and just one – only one, self motivated authentic leader like me sitting here with you. You see, these characteristics I possess have all proven to deliver quality results, which have contributed me being here in this interview with you. Choosing another person for this position would be a huge mistake. A person with my level of expertise, drive, distinct uniqueness and uncompromising ethics will never cross your path again because there is only one me. And should you choose not to make me an offer Hiring Manager, it will be the biggest mistake you’ve ever made. So when can I begin?”
